Embracing Your Modern Family

At some point or another, you might realize that your family doesn’t look like the kind we used to see in movies. Most of us aren’t in a house behind a white picket-fence featuring Mom, Dad, Brother, Sister and Fido. Most of us are part of a family that resembles something much different.

Also, I don’t even want to try and explain what makes a family a “Modern Family” because there are SO many kinds of family. It would be unfair of me to try to compile a big list of them and inevitably miss a few.

What matters is that it’s your family. Your family could be made up of almost any combination of people, but at the end of the day, you are all there for each other regardless of how you all ended up as a family.

I believe that your family can include the people that you are related to by blood. I believe that your family can include the people that you are related to by marriage. I also believe that your family can include the people that you just LOVE.

People who can bring a group together and fill a room with love regardless of who is related to whom, or who is married to whom are the people that you need in your life. Someone who can throw a Christmas dinner and invite anyone to join has a lot of love in their heart. They are the people that hold the family together.

Anyone can be a part of your family. It takes a lot of love, but that is the best part. Go ahead and surround yourself with lots of people that you care about, because at the end of the day it doesn’t really matter if that person was legally your sibling or parent – what matters is that you loved them like family anyways.
